The Number 1 Reason to Exercise

What’s the number one reason we should exercise?

I say it’s because we can.  We’re capable, and it’s a gift, that’s why.  There are many great reasons to exercise, but what if we just look at this one reason?

My heart keeps telling me I need to share this because I think we all need to remember that our excuses are excuses sometimes and we take our bodies for granted.  If you are one that says, I know I need to change. I know I need to get exercise in my routine. I know I need to make time for it, and you just don’t, I hope this story can help. It helps me on days that I don’t want to fit in my workout.

This is serious.

I’m working with a client right now, for the last three months, who’s had a stroke. One of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.  The opportunity came out of the blue. (Well, I say it was a God thing…) I said yes when I didn’t know how it would work out and was transparent with the fact that I wasn’t sure if I had the proper tools to help this patient.  This is my first client ever that wasn’t at least a little bit about achieving an aesthetic outcome; exercise to this man is for strength and to keep some independence.

I also have 3 other friends who must rely on their wheelchairs to get them around; I’ve learned so much from each of them.

I watch the movements that they make, and how hard they work to get their body to do what they want it to do. I keep asking myself, What would that be like? Yes, it keeps me grateful and mellows me out with my griping about little aches and pains; don’t gripe so much, right? It doesn’t just make me grateful that I’m upright and can get around easier, it inspires me when I watch them because they try harder and go after it harder than anyone I know.  (And they don’t complain!)

I’m here to ask you to move more.

If you don’t personally have somebody that’s limited by their body, let my three friends and my new client can come to your mind next time you’re resisting exercise.

Remember, this is our one time shot right here, right now.  Our body houses our soul. It’s ours until our last day, and how we treat it matters. Think of the compound effects where, if we do good things, one day at a time, it all adds up. The body loves and appreciates it. If we don’t do the good things daily, it adds up and goes against us.

One more thing… drink your water, okay?

Staying hydrated is another way to show your body love and appreciation; we are blessed to have great water to drink!
